Nord Automobiles Limited has officially entered the electric vehicle (EV) market with the unveiling of Tavet Motion, its new subsidiary dedicated to clean mobility. The launch event, held at the Oriental Hotel in Lagos in November 2025, brought together government officials, investors, and industry leaders; signaling a major milestone for Nigeria’s automotive sector.
With rising fuel costs, import challenges, and the global shift toward renewable energy, Tavet Motion aims to provide locally built EVs designed for African roads. The company introduced three models:
(i) Luto – a compact EV for city commuters, offering about 200 km per charge.
(ii) Garent – a luxury sedan with advanced safety features and a bold design, boasting a claimed range of up to 1,200 km.
(iii) Vant – a logistics-focused EV capable of carrying over a ton of cargo, with a 305 km range.
Prices start at ₦16 million for and go up to ₦32 million for premium trims. Tavet Motion blends international standards with local craftsmanship. Each model comes equipped with essentials like ABS, hill-start assist, and reverse cameras, and can be charged at home or work.
Unlike many EVs in Africa that are imported and adapted, various platforms are purpose-built for local realities; rougher road conditions, limited charging networks, and affordability concerns. This makes Tavet Motion’s approach unique and potentially transformative for Nigeria’s auto industry. The vehicles will be assembled in Lagos with suppliers from Thailand and China.
Nord’s CEO, Oluwatobi Ajayi, emphasized that Tavet Motion is not just about selling cars but about building a complete EV ecosystem. Plans include rolling out charging stations, integrating solar-powered fast chargers, and eventually producing batteries locally using Nigeria’s lithium reserves. Ajayi’s vision aligns with both Nigeria’s clean energy goals and the African Union’s Agenda 2063, which prioritizes sustainable industrialization and also seems a better strategy akin to Tesla for the hopefully rapid adoption of EVs in Nigeria. In his words: “We’re not just selling cars; we’re building an entire EV ecosystem.
Industry forecasts believe Tavet Motion could capture up to 15% of Nigeria’s emerging EV market within two years, provided infrastructure challenges such as charging networks and stable power supply are addressed.
