The cars on this list cost quite a lot. They’re incredibly exclusive, rare, and are the hit of every auction and car show in which they appear. There are less than 100 of these high-performance, high-end vehicles in the world, and for some, less than even 10.
Commemorative cars, special editions, prototypes are special because of their rarity. Other cars on this list were made famous by the people who drove them, like Steve McQueen.
Here are 20 of the rarest cars, and how much they cost (if you can find them). The figures are quoted in dollars, because, you know, well, the naira fluctuates.
1994 Ferrari F40 LM - $3.3 Million
This classic-styled Ferrari was built between 1987 and 1992, as the fastest, most powerful, and most expensive car at the time. Its twin-turbo V8 pumped out 471hp and a top speed of 199 mph, and it was the last car designed by Enzo Ferrari himself. Its MSRP of $400,000 ($860,000 today) made it incredibly expensive, but now each of the original 1,311 produced are worth way more.
W Motors Lykan HyperSport - $3.4 Million
This limited-production supercar was featured in Furious 7, and it’s the first supercar to be designed in the Middle East. Only seven were ever produced, making it ultra-rare, and the third most expensive production car to date. Its headlights are embedded with jewels, 420 diamonds, or rubies and sapphires, which makes the $3.4-million price tag a bit more understandable. It has a top speed of 240 mph from its 780-hp 3.7-liter twin-turbo flat-six engine.
Mansory Bugatti Veyron Linea Vivere - $3.4 Million
2016 Icona Vulcano Titanium - $3.8 Million
2013 Lamborghini Veneno - $4.5 Million
1955 Mercedes 300SL Gullwing - $4.62 Million
2009 Koenigsegg CCXR Trevita - $4.8 Million

Porsche 550 Spyder - $6 Million
1964 Ford GT40 - $7 Million
2008 Maybach Exelero - $8 Million
Bugatti Type 41 Royale Kellner Coupe - $9.7 Million
1953 Jaguar XK120-C - $13.2 Million
1998 McLaren F1 LM - $13.75 Million
1970 Porsche 917 - $14 Million
1962 Aston Martin DB4 GT Zagato - $14.3 Million

1956 Aston Martin DBR1 - $22.5 Million
1957 Ferrari 250 Testa Rossa - $39.8 Million
1962 Ferrari 250 GTO - $48.4 Million
There they are, the rarest cars available. Now, lets hope our politicians don't see this post he he he!
Got any cars you'd like us to feature? We'd be happy to come around. Thanks.

The Bugatti Veyron EB 16.4 is already one of the most expensive supercars since production stopped in 2015, but the Linea Vivere special edition takes it to another level. While only 270 original Veyrons were produced, only three of these special editions were made, in a matte white exterior, a redesigned hood, and a modified interior. One recently sold for $3.4 million. It runs on a massive quad-turbo 8.0-liter W16 engine.
2016 Icona Vulcano Titanium - $3.8 Million
This is the world’s first all-titanium car, made by the Italian carmakers, Icona Group. It was inspired by the titanium Lockheed SR-71 Blackbird. The one-off supercar took 1,000 hours to have the body hammered out, and though its supercharged V8 is optimized at 680hp, it can be tweaked to hit 1,000. The New York Daily News reported that this car costs $3.8 million.
2013 Lamborghini Veneno - $4.5 Million
The limited edition Veneno supercar is based on the Lamborghini Aventador, to commemorate the 50th anniversary of the company. It’s the second-most expensive production car in the world, with a price tag of $4.5 million. Its 6.5-liter V12 engine produces 740 hp and a top speed of 221 mph. A roadster version was also produced, at 110 pounds lighter and a price tag of $3.9 million.
1955 Mercedes 300SL Gullwing - $4.62 Million
One of the most famous and expensive Mercedes of all time is the 300SL Gullwing, a classic of the automotive world. It was the fastest production car of its day, built as a toned-down Grand Prix car, and 3,258 of them were built between 1954 and 1963. Today, each one sells at auction for at least seven figures, and an aluminium alloy version costs even more—$4.62 million at a 2012 auction, for instance.
2009 Koenigsegg CCXR Trevita - $4.8 Million
Koenigsegg claims the CCXR Trevita as the “most environmentally friendly” supercar, running on a 4.8-liter twin-supercharged V8 on E85 and E100 ethanol fuel. It has an astonishing power output of 1,004 hp, and only two of them were ever produced (out of a planned three). Iconic boxer Floyd Mayweather owns one, and the other costs $4.8 million.
1928 Mercedes S-Type 26/120/180 Sports Tourer - $5-6 Million
By the 1920s, Mercedes-Benz’s K- and S-Type models were some of the most expensive on the market. This four-passenger tourer was originally sold to Vaudeville star Al Jolson, who maintained it until 1947. The chief designer was Ferdinand Porsche, and only 150 were ever produced, with just a handful surviving into the 21st century. A recent Pebble Beach auction featured one with an expected price of $5-$6 million.
Porsche 550 Spyder - $6 Million
![]() |
Between 1953 and 1956, the Porsche 550 Spyder was probably the most popular race car. Only 90 were built, though, making it incredibly rare. The all-aluminum 1.5-liter four-cylinder boxer engine, or “Fuhrmann Engine,” inspired many Porsches to come. It’s estimated that only 46 "550 Spyders" still exist today, and one sold at a Bonhams Goodwood Revival Sale for $6 million recently. Jerry Seinfeld also sold one included in a bulk purchase with 14 other Porsches, for $22 million.
1964 Ford GT40 - $7 Million
The Ford GT40 will always be remembered as the race car that beat Ferrari at their own game in the 1966-1969 24 Hours of Le Mans races. It was the car that gave America their first victory at Le Mans. Only 105 were produced between 1964 and 1969, with varying types of MK engines. In 2014, a prototype GT40 was sold for $7 million.
2008 Maybach Exelero - $8 Million
It’s hard to believe that the most expensive one-off “production” car ever produced is only halfway down this list. The Maybach Exelero is a 690-hp supercar made by DaimlerChrysler. Powered by a twin-turbo V12, it can reach 218 mph. American rapper Birdman bought it in 2011 for $8 million, but couldn’t afford the payments, so now it belongs with another, more successful rapper: Jay-Z. Life! No go dey do pass yourself!
Bugatti Type 41 Royale Kellner Coupe - $9.7 Million
Before Bugatti was making the fastest supercars in the world, they were making the most luxurious cars in the world. The Type 41, or Royale, weighs around 7,000 pounds and is 20% longer than most modern Rolls-Royces. Only 25 were ever planned to be built by Ettore Bugatti, but only seven ended up getting manufactured. Three of those sold, and one sold at auction for $9.7 million.
1953 Jaguar XK120-C - $13.2 Million
The C-Type Jaguar was a race car produced from 1951 to 1953, built using a light tubular framework and aerodynamic body. Only 53 were ever built, with 43 being sold to private owners. With only 10 available on the market, it could be the rarest Jaguar in the world. In 2015, one sold at auction for $13.2 million, making it the most expensive Jaguar ever sold.
1998 McLaren F1 LM - $13.75 Million
The McLaren F1 is often considered the original modern supercar, and six of these LM editions were built to commemorate the five McLaren F1 GTRs that competed in the 1995 24 Hours of Le Mans and took four of the five top spots (including first). Five of these have been sold in their original papaya paint jobs, and one was auctioned in 1998 for $13.75 million.
1970 Porsche 917 - $14 Million
This famous sports car prototype gave Porsche its first overall win at the 24 Hours of Le Mans in 1970 and 1971. It was also featured in the Steve McQueen film, Le Mans, giving it celebrity provenance. The 917 driven by McQueen in the film sold at auction for $14 million in 2017, setting a record price for Porsche.
1962 Aston Martin DB4 GT Zagato - $14.3 Million
The Aston Martin DB4 GT Zagato was an improved version of the DB4 GT, with an expected run of just 25 cars. Production ceased during the 20th build, however. Of the original 19, one sold recently at auction for $14.3 million. The car is powered by a 3.7-liter twin-spark straight-six engine that produces 314 hp.
1961 Ferrari 250 GT California SWB Spider - $17.16 Million
This beautiful sports car became one of the most expensive cars ever sold at auction, in 2016, when it sold for $17.16 million. Only 55 of these cars were made, which makes it one of the most sought-after cars by one of the most popular and legendary car companies in the world.
1956 Aston Martin DBR1 - $22.5 Million
The DBR1 race car was built in 1956, intended for the World Sportscar Championship. It had a famous victory at Le Mans in 1959—Aston Martin’s only outright victory of the race. It won six World Sportscar Championships in the ‘50s and became one of only three cars to win Le Mans and World Sportscar in the same year. Only five were ever built, with one selling at a 2017 auction for $22,555,000.
1957 Ferrari 250 Testa Rossa - $39.8 Million
It shouldn’t come as a surprise that Ferrari owns three of the top five spots on this list. They’ve consistently put out the rarest and most alluring cars on the planet. The 250TR was built during the 1950s and ‘60s and won 10 World Sportscar Championships, three 24 Hours of Le Mans, and more. Only 34 were ever built, with one selling at a 2014 auction for $39.8 million.
1962 Ferrari 250 GTO - $48.4 Million
The most expensive car ever sold is the Ferrari 250 GTO, and it holds the top two spots (one selling for $48.4 million in 2018, and another for $40.3 million in 2014). When it first came out, buyers had to be personally approved by Enzo Ferrari to own one. That’s how exclusive it was. Only 39 were ever made: 33 with the original bodywork, three with the 1964 Series II bodywork, and three “330 GTO” limited edition cars with larger engines.
There they are, the rarest cars available. Now, lets hope our politicians don't see this post he he he!
