Car Maintenance II; Basic Car Routine Checks

Car maintenance is important in ensuring a proper functioning car. It is important to carry out certain routine checks to ensure optimal performance and long trouble-free life.
Easy checks are;

Engine Oil
Engine oil serves as a coolant and lubricant for the engine. There are three factors here; engine oil type, age/condition, and level.
It is important to use the correct oil type for your engine. Most late model cars use synthetic and semi-synthetic oils. Older models use conventional (dinosaur) oil. Wrong oil type could cause problems in today's engines with tighter tolerances.
Engine oil is changed periodically. Conventional oils are changed at more regular intervals compared to synthetic oils based on engine load and mileage.
Oil levels should be checked once weekly and topped off when necessary.

Tyre Pressures
Over-inflated and under-inflated tyres are both detrimental to the ride, handling and safety of the car. Over-inflated tyres reduce the surface patch on the road and give the car a bouncy feel. Under-inflated tyres lead to increased wear and reduce brake efficiency.
Always refer to the pressure guide sticker on the driver's door beam for the correct tyre pressures of the car.
It is always best to check tyre pressures in the morning as they are most accurate.

Brake Fluid
Modern cars use assisted-brake systems with hydraulic fluid. Please check the brake fluid levels, ensure the levels are between the "max" and "min" markings.
It is normal for fluid level to reduce during normal vehicle operation as the brake pads wear out.
Please refer to your vehicle's owner manual for the correct type of fluid.

Steering Fluid
Steering systems use steering pumps for easy maneuverability. Steering systems must have adequate fluid at all times to run the pumps properly and keep them properly cooled.
Lack of adequate fluid can burn these systems out and lead to expensive repairs.

To ensure the long life and optimal performance of our cars, please carry out these checks.
Cheers!
